Since its founding in 2017 by Margaret Battersby Black, Sarah King, Sara Salger and Kate Conway, the ITLA Women’s Caucus has become one of the most dynamic and impactful components of our organization. What began as a response to a clear need for greater connection, visibility, and leadership opportunities for women trial lawyers has grown into a powerful force within the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
At the time of its formation, it was evident that while hundreds of talented women were active members of ITLA, many lacked the opportunity to fully engage with one another or to step into leadership roles. The Women’s Caucus was established to provide ample opportunities for women to network. Its mission was straightforward but ambitious: to foster mentorship, expand professional development opportunities, encourage leadership, and create a more unified community of women trial lawyers.
Over the past several years, the Women’s Caucus has delivered on that mission in meaningful and measurable ways.
