The Illinois Trial Lawyers Association is committed to protecting the privacy of our members and users of its website and services. The term ‘Illinois Trial Lawyers Association’ or ‘ITLA’ or ‘us’ or ‘we’ refers to the owner of the website.
COLLECTING AND USING YOUR INFORMATION
ITLA collects information from members and website users to contact you and better provide services, especially membership benefits. We only collect data that is necessary for the stated purposes. This includes information that can be used to identify you directly. The categories of personal information we may collect include:
- Identifiers: Name, email address, postal address, phone number, IP address, unique personal identifiers (such as ARDC number for registered attorneys).
- Professional or Employment-Related Information: Job title, company name.
- Account Information: Username, password, preferences, feedback.

- Commercial Information: Records of materials or seminars purchased.
- Financial Information: Payment card details (processed securely by third-party payment processors; we do not store full payment card numbers), billing address.
Users who become ITLA members or register for an event or seminar, submit personal information to ITLA that is used in the normal course of business including for the following purposes:
- E-mails: ITLA sends emails to members for CLE seminars and other member benefit communications through various listservs and a third-party service. This enables ITLA to communicate membership information, newsletters, and dues renewal notices. ITLA also uses various committee listservs to offer members the opportunity to communicate with like-minded members. Members have the option to opt out of all email communications and unsubscribe from emails.
- Mailings: Maintaining accurate and updated mailing information enables us to mail information about CLE opportunities, magazines, and dues renewal notices.
- Membership Directory: All ITLA members are listed in an online searchable Membership Directory available only to ITLA members. Contact information includes firm information unless a member has provided a home address as their firm mailing address or unless it is the only address available to ITLA. Additionally, a directory of members is available for each committee. Only ITLA members of a committee can access the directory of committee members.
When you access our website, we may automatically collect certain information, including:
- Device Information: IP address, browser type, browser version, operating system, unique device identifiers.
- Usage Patterns: Pages visited, time spent on pages, referral source, navigation paths, clickstream data.
- Location Data: General location derived from your IP address.

- Service Providers: ITLA partners with TrialSmith/MemberCentral to manage our website and online CLE services. They perform services and hosting for us to enhance membership services and as such, they have secure access to member data to provide those services for you. Your information, including personal data, may be transferred to — and maintained on — servers located outside of your state, province, country, or other governmental jurisdiction where the data protection laws may differ from those of your jurisdiction. We also utilize third-party vendors to deliver information to members and only share necessary information to deliver information. These third-parties have access to your personal data only to perform these tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose.
- Vendors: ITLA has a relationship with various business partners that may offer services to you that enhance your practice. ITLA does not sell member email addresses, phone numbers or fax numbers to these partners; however, we do make available mailing labels with the physical addresses of members for their one-time-only use.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose your personal data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:
- Comply with a legal obligation (e.g., subpoena or court order).
- Protect and defend the rights or property of Illinois Trial Lawyers Association
- Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the service.
- Protect the personal safety of users of the service or the public.
- Protect against legal liability.

While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal data, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.
