Larry R. Rogers, Sr. Awarded Leonard M. Ring Lifetime Achievement Award

Larry R. Rogers, Sr. will be awarded the prestigious Leonard M. Ring Lifetime Achievement Award at the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association (ITLA) convention on Friday, June 6, 2014. The convention will be held at the Oak Brook Hills Resort in Oak Brook, Illinois.

The criteria of the award are as follows:

“This award is given annually at the convention banquet to someone selected by a committee appointed by the president. The recipient is someone who has devoted, as Leonard did, a substantial part of their life and their practice to ITLA, someone who has done more than is called for. Someone who had the standards of Leonard, the work ethics of Leonard and the commitment to ITLA that Leonard had. At the same time, it keeps alive the memory of Leonard Ring.”

Larry Rogers, 66, received his undergraduate degree in 1974 from St. Xavier College.  In 1983, Rogers earned his law degree from DePaul University College of Law and was admitted to the Illinois bar shortly thereafter.

A native of Chicago, Rogers is one of the founding partners of Power Rogers & Smith. He has dedicated more than 25 years of his career to representing the most difficult personal injury and wrongful death cases.

Rogers has excelled as a trial attorney, winning numerous personal injury settlements and verdicts for his clients in many types of cases, including wrongful death, medical malpractice, motor vehicle negligence and aviation accident cases.

A leader in the personal injury field, his impressive record of success started early in his career winning his very first trial in Cook County.  Since then, Rogers has recovered many record verdicts in favor of his clients.

Rogers has been active in numerous professional organizations.  He was elected president of ITLA in 2000, serving as the first African-American president of the organization.  Rogers has also served as the president of the Cook County Bar Association.  He is a fellow of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers and the American College of Trial Lawyers.  As a sustaining member of the American Association for Justice, Rogers serves of the Public Affairs Committee and the Minority Caucus.

Recognized nationally as a highly skilled personal injury litigator, Rogers was named one of the Ten Most Influential Illinois Lawyers by American Lawyer Media and one of the nation’s top ten attorneys by the National Law Journal.  He has also been named as one of The Best Lawyers in America every year since 2001.  Rogers has also been selected by his peers for the Leading Lawyer Network as a leading lawyer in personal injury law.

During his distinguished career, Rogers has been honored with numerous awards including: the Distinguished Alumni Award from St. Xavier University, the DePaul University College of Law Alumni Award for Outstanding Service to the Legal Profession, and awarded honorary doctorate degrees from DePaul University College of Law and St. Xavier University.

"I am deeply honored and humbled by ITLA for awarding the Leonard Ring award to me,” says Rogers.  “The Illinois Trial Lawyers Association has been a part of my legal career from the beginning. I thank both ITLA and Leonard Ring's family for allowing me to share in Mr. Ring's legacy.”

Rogers credits his family, including his son Larry, Jr., his daughter, Ann Marie and his seven grandchildren, for their love and support.  “They have inspired me to do the best that I could as a trial lawyer and I thank them for their support,” says Rogers.
