The civil justice system relies on many people doing their part. We, as the plaintiff’s attorney, accept and file the case. From there, someone serves the complaint. The defendant receives the complaint and, typically, sends to an insurance company or employer. This initiates a flurry of activity, including lawyers and their staff. The court system, though the clerk’s office, dockets the lawsuit. The court clerk maintains the docket and ensures that the lawsuit and any orders emanating from it are properly recorded. Building staff, from the security personnel to the custodial workers, are among those responsible for the premises on a daily basis. There are jurors, court reporters, witnesses, consultants, and the list goes on. Any one lawsuit, even in the simplest of civil cases, likely involves dozens of people. They are all an integral part our adversarial system.
