My Fellow Trial Lawyers-
A few weeks ago, when I stood before you at our annual convention, I stole the words of a late mentor of mine, Ron Motley, who said, “I stand for my clients rights. I am a trial lawyer.” That simple sentence describes the reason for this organization’s existence. We proudly and firmly stand for the rights of the injured, the bereaved, the workers, the victims, the helpless and the voiceless. We are trial lawyers. All of us. My goal for this year is to live up to that description every day.
I was so fortunate to follow Patrick Salvi II in the order of succession. Pat’s leadership and eloquence brought us great success legislatively and electorally. Our initiatives: eliminating the common carrier exemption for rideshare companies, making punitive damages available in wrongful death actions, trial preference for older litigants, and videotaping of expert medical examinations were all passed by the legislature.
